Results of the Fuel Crisis

I took these photos in Harare today, 6^th September 2000.

I have noticed the rubbish gathering for quite a few days,

and finally had to take a photograph.

This pile of rubbish is in the CENTRE of Harare city,

at the corner of 1^st Street and G. Silundika Ave (used to be Gordon Ave).

This was during the lunch hour, the people sitting around

were eating their lunches. There are piles like this one

here and there around the city centre.

I went back to my office and phoned the Health Dept.

who told me to phone the Cleansing Dept.

who told me the man I needed to speak to was out.

I informed the lady I spoke to of the growing pile,

and was told there is no diesel for the rubbish trucks.

PS. At todays date 30^th May 2001 – there is no change to the above.
