The
Eastern Highlands
Of
Zimbabwe
Dec
2000
Welcome to my trip to the Nyanga area
in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe.
Below you will find a bit of
information about the area, and links to pages on Nyanga and the surrounding
areas.
You will also find links to my
guestbooks, and a link to take you back to the Index page of the main site.
Don’t forget that the pages are very
graphics intense, so will take some time to load.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as
I enjoyed the trip.
Nyanga lies to the North of Mutare in the Eastern
Highlands of Zimbabwe.Relief, climate & vegetaion are very varied. The
beautiful mountains, valleys, rivers, waterfalls are a feast for the eyes, and
leave one feeling calm and rejuvenated. When I stand at the top of World’s
View, or at the foot of the Nyangombi Falls, I am in awe of the beauty of this
area, and it’s Creator, and always thankful that I have had another chance to see
and feel the splendour of Nyanga.
Zimbabwe’s highest mountain, Nyangani, at 2592 metres
(8504 feet) high, dominates the area. The highlands stand on a giant plateau of
uplifted dolorite intrusions at an altitude of 1970 – 2575 metres (6500 – 8500
feet). There are relatively few
animals, but Nyanga is an important wildlife and bird sanctuary, with a range
of species unique in Zimbabwe.
