DBZ Summary

.

This page summarizes the events in the anime series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT (I've never read the manga, so I can't make any comments on it). If you haven't seen these sagas, then there is a Spoiler Warning in effect. However, the goal of this page isn't to recount the entire series. Rather, it's a brief overview of the significant events in the show, intended to give the reader a feel for the series in general, as well as background information to help read DB fanfictions, and watch the series in medias res without being completely confused. But to help you decide what you want to read and not, there's an italicized note at the beginning of each saga summarized.

Dragon Ball

As of the writing of this summary, I haven't seen much of Dragon Ball. In fact, I've only seen the first ten or so episodes (English dub), and the final ten or so episodes (subtitled). But I felt it was important to go over the basics in DB, as it forms the foundation upon which DBZ is constructed. Dragon Ball is slated for U.S. airing on Cartoon Network in spring/summer 2001.

Dragon Ball is the story of Son Goku, a small, good-natured boy that roamed the woods of Mount Paozu. He lived by himself in the cottage of his grandfather Gohan. Grandpa Gohan found him as a baby in the wilderness and named him "Goku," which is a story of a legendary were-monkey due to the odd fact that the boy had a monkey tail. Unfortunately, Gohan was killed by the mysterious were-monkey that appears on the evening of the full moon, leaving Goku an orphan once again (I'm not sure of his age, but I've read he's somewhere between 5 and 12... he can't count, so he can't really enlighten us much). The story begins when a teenaged girl named Bulma encounters Goku in the woods. Bulma is on a quest to find the seven legendary Dragon Balls, which can summon the dragon Shenlon who will grant the summoner a single wish. She found a Dragon Ball in her basement, and constructed a Dragon Radar to home in on the remaining six balls. When shown one of Bulma's Dragon Balls, Goku innocently reports that it looks like his Grandfather. He then takes Bulma to his home, and shows her the four-star Dragon Ball, which used to belong to Grandpa Gohan and in which resides his spirit (according to Goku). Bulma convinces Goku to come on the quest with her, in search of the remaining Dragon Balls. Goku is at first reluctant to give the four-star ball to Bulma, but is eager to accompany Bulma when told of the great adventures and dangers they'd encounter.

Throughout the series, Bulma and Goku search for the Dragon Balls on numerous occasions, always being troubled by some enemy who is also eager to make a wish. When Shenlon is summoned, he can only grant one wish, but when the wish is made, the Dragon Balls are scattered throughout the planet, only to be recollected to summon Shenlon again in a year's time. So the adventures continue.

As the series develops, we get to see Goku progress. From day-one, he is an impossibly strong boy, but with further martial arts training from Master Roshi and Kami, the guardian of Earth, he constantly manages to defeat incredible odds. Also, his gentle nature helps him befriend a variety of interesting characters, including Oolong, the shape-changing pig, Yamucha the Desert Bandit and his shape-shifting partner Puar, the Ox King and his irrepressible (and lovestruck) daughter Chichi, Krillin, a fellow youthful martial artist, Tien and Chaiotzu, students under a rival sensei, and many others.

Another interesting fact about Goku is this: remember that tail I mentioned? Well, as it turns out, whenever Goku looks upon the full moon, he transforms into the very same were-monkey that killed his grandfather. The transformation reverses when the moonlight disappears, or Goku's tail is removed (but the tail regenerates in times of stress in his youth). Goku has no control over himself in his were-monkey form, nor does he have any memories of what he did when he recovers, so each time his tail grows back, his friends are wary of the potential risk.

The primary villain in DB at first is Emperor Pilaf, a small megalomaniac eager to conquer the world. Others include Piccolo Daimao, the "Demon King" also out to do some world-conquering, and the Red Ribbon Army, a corporate rival of Capsule Corporation (the Briefs' technology company) that is also out for world domination.

Like I said, I didn't see most of DB, so I can't comment on much. But I did see the end, so I can make some comments on that. DB ends years after it began (Goku grows from a young boy to a young man), and the culmination of DB is the battle between Goku and Piccolo Daimao's reincarnation (see the Piccolo character page for details). It was a huge battle, sweeping several episodes, but in the end, Goku stood victorious. Goku decided to spare Piccolo's life, for Kami and Piccolo's souls are bound in life and death, meaning the death of one would cause the death of the other (plus, he's just so good-hearted, he always tries his best not to kill his enemy). Finally, Goku married Chichi and settled down... or did he?

Dragon Ball Z: The Saiyan Saga

I have seen only the English dub of the Saiyan Saga. As I'm sure most are aware, the censorship in America has forced some... creative license in the episodes prepared for English distribution. Many times that means taking the "gore" out of the program, but sometimes even content is changed. Don't ask me why. The Saiyan Saga was originally translated and aired in the U.S. several years ago. I know of no plans to rerun it anytime soon.

The Saiyan Saga picks up several years after the final battle between Goku and Piccolo. All has been quiet, and the Z-Senshi (Z-Warriors) had gone their separate ways. Goku lives in the woods of Mount Paozu with Chichi and their four year old son, Gohan, named in memory of his grandfather. The adventure begins when an incredibly powerful alien crash lands on Earth. His name is Radditz, and he arrived on Earth searching for Kakarott, his long-lost younger brother. Oh, and one more thing... Radditz has a tail.

So finally, Goku's past is revealed. He is Kakarott, a member of the Saiyan race. And who are the Saiyans? A race of barbaric warriors from the planet Vegeta (Vejiitasei) who deal in the planetary trade market. They attack hospitable planets, purge them of all intelligent life, and sell them to the highest bidder. And here's another shocking discovery... Kakarott was sent to Earth on a purging mission (Saiyans are so strong, infants are powerful enough to purge planets with weaker dominant species). Radditz had come to Earth in the hopes of finding Kakarott alive, because the Saiyan home planet had been destroyed by a passing comet, and he was on a mission of collecting the few that were still alive.

Obviously, Goku isn't happy to learn that he is a member of a bloodthirsty species. And Radditz is taken aback to find Kakarott alive and well, with the Earth still thriving. And when Goku refuses to finish the mission he was initially sent to Earth for, Radditz kidnaps Gohan in order to blackmail Goku. And Goku is powerless to do anything about it.

Enter Piccolo. He had encountered Radditz soon after the latter arrived on Earth, and he is concerned that the barbarian will destroy his planet. So Piccolo offers Goku a short-term truce: they'd face Radditz together, and then resume their rivalry. Goku agrees, and the two strongest Earth warriors fly after Radditz and Gohan. They fight, Gohan reveals that he has an astonishing ki (energy, most often used in fighting), and Goku dies when he holds down Radditz long enough for Piccolo to fire a Special Beam Cannon (Makankosappo... his signature energy attack) right through the both of them. Goku and Radditz are rapidly fading, and Piccolo mentions to Radditz that Goku won't be dead long, for his friends would collect the Dragon Balls and wish him back to life. Big mistake. Radditz smugly replies that his scouter (an eyepiece that lets him read ki levels) is also a transmitter, and that the two other Saiyans would come within a year to make a wish. And they are much more powerful than he.

So the Z-Senshi have a new dilemma: what to do about the two Saiyans that would arrive on their soil in a year's time... both of whom are far stronger than Radditz, who they barely managed to defeat. Piccolo decides to take Gohan and train him, believing his phenomenal innate strength would be essential in defeating the Saiyans. Bulma collects the Dragon Balls to wish Goku back to life. Kami summons Tien, Chaiotzu, Krillin, Yamucha, and Yajirobe to his domain (the Sky Palace, which hangs over the globe in the upper atmosphere) for special training. And Kami arranges for Goku to take advantage of his trip into the afterlife by seeking special training from King Kai, a higher level god famous for his unique (but effective) training practices.

The year passes. Goku trains in ten-times Earth's gravity, the other Z-Senshi train with Kami, and Piccolo's severe training turns Gohan from a whiny, sheltered baby into a surprisingly capable fighter. And during that year of training, Piccolo finds himself growing a little attached to Gohan.

Then the Saiyans arrive. And those Saiyans are Vegeta, the Saiyan prince, and his attendant Nappa. And they're there to wish for immortality with the Dragon Balls. The Z-Senshi are prepared to defend their planet, but Goku is still on his way back from the dead. So Nappa kills Yamucha, Chaiotzu, Tien, and Piccolo in the meantime, along with seriously roughing up Gohan and Krillin. But when he faces Goku, Nappa can't land a single punch. Vegeta is so disgusted by Nappa's ineptness that he incinerates him effortlessly. And then, the battle is on.

The fight between Vegeta and Goku includes spurts of blood, broken bones, and energy attacks that tear the battle ground apart. The two seem about evenly matched, but Vegeta uses a ki-sphere that simulates the light of the full moon to turn into an oozaru (the were-monkey). This is the first time Goku actually saw an oozaru. Goku is barely able to breathe when Krillin and Gohan find them, and help out. But they can't overpower Oozaru Vegeta either. Luckily, Yajirobe musters the courage to get involved, and chops off Vegeta's tail, removing that advantage.

Vegeta is finally defeated, and Krillin is prepared to kill him once and for all, but Goku pleads with Krillin to spare him, for Goku respects Vegeta. So Vegeta retreats, promising to exact revenge. And the remaining Z-Senshi are rushed to the hospital to recover.

Dragon Ball Z: The Frieza Saga

I've only seen the English dub of this saga as well. This summary is a compilation of the Namek, Ginyu, and Frieza Sagas, but since they bleed into each other significantly, I didn't see a reason to keep that distinction. The only thing to note is that, while Frieza appears often in the Namek and Ginyu sagas, he doesn't fight the Z-Senshi until the Frieza saga. These sagas are all available for VHS purchase, (and thankfully, the editing isn't as blasphemous as the Saiyan Saga). I don't think they'll be airing on Cartoon Network in the immediate future.

This story arc picks up immediately after Vegeta's retreat. Goku, Gohan, and Krillin are mending in the hospital, but Goku's injuries are far more serious. But the team faces another problem: the dead Z-Senshi. For the Dragon Balls cease to exist when Kami (their creator) dies, and since his life is uniquely bonded with Piccolo, when Piccolo died in the fight against Nappa, the Dragon Balls disappeared. No Dragon Balls, no wishes. But the team isn't about to give up yet.

There's a glimmer of hope left, for when Vegeta first arrived, he took one look at Piccolo, and expressed his surprise at seeing a Namek on Earth. He continued that he'd heard the legend of seven balls found on Namek that would grant wishes. He'd passed it off as myth, but after hearing Piccolo speak of them through Radditz' communicator, he decided it was a legend worth investigating. Piccolo himself had no memory of the planet Namek (he arrived on Earth as a child), but Mr. Popo, Kami's assistant, knew a bit more about Kami's past. So the team decided to try and find the planet Namek, and hope that they had a set of Dragon Balls too.

Mr. Popo leads Bulma to Kami's old spaceship, which she fixes up and prepares for travel. She, Gohan, and Krillin leave Earth to find Namek, but Goku is still far too fragile to accompany them.

Meanwhile, Vegeta has similar intentions. He finds one of Frieza's ships, and since he's a member of Frieza's legions, he is able to use one of their regeneration tanks (full immersion in a healing liquid) to restore himself. He learns Frieza himself had moved on to Namek in search of the Dragon Balls, and he hastily follows to intercept. For, while Vegeta is a member of Frieza's forces, he isn't at all loyal to the beast, for he suspects Frieza had something to do with Vejiitasei's destruction.

And so, three teams are searching for the Dragon Balls of Namek: Frieza and his armies, Vegeta, and Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan. Namek itself is a planet that had suffered severe weather disturbances (which is why the Saiyans or Frieza never bothered to conquer it earlier), and only a few hundred Nameks are still alive. One of them is Guru, the Namek elder and creator of the Namek Dragon Balls. He sends Dende, one of the younger Nameks with innate healing powers, to assist the Z-Senshi in collecting the Dragon Balls.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Goku finishes recuperating, and Dr. Briefs manages to construct a space ship that can traverse the space between Earth and Namek in a few days (it took the other three two months to make the trip). So Goku trains hard in the ship, which doubles as a gravity chamber, allowing him to train in 100 times Earth's gravity. That, combined with the power boost he got from recuperating (Saiyans get stronger when they recover from critical injuries) make him incredibly more powerful when he arrives on Namek. And thanks to his added strength, the Z-Senshi are able to defeat Frieza's most elite warriors, including the entire Ginyu Force.

Vegeta winds up forming a hesitant truce with the Z-Senshi, for both had to face the ultimate threat of Frieza, a monster with a ki that completely eclipses any other living being. Dende informs the Z-Senshi that the Dragon Balls of Namek aren't as limited as the ones on Earth... Porunga can grant three wishes at once. So Vegeta and the Z-Senshi planned to split the three wishes, Vegeta getting his immortality, while the others wish for the dead Z-Senshi to be restored.

The Dragon Balls are gathered, and Porunga is summoned. Only, he is summoned immediately after the final fight with Captain Ginyu, which left both Goku and Vegeta recovering. Krillin hoped to avoid granting Vegeta immortality (he's still can't be trusted, after all). Wishes can only be made in the Namek language, so Krillin and Gohan ask Dende to ask Porunga to revive the fallen Z-Senshi. But Porunga, unlike Shenlon, can't resurrect more than one person with one wish. So they wish for Piccolo to be restored to life (which restores Kami, and the Earth Dragon Balls). The second wish is for Piccolo to come to Namek and help in the battle against Frieza. Before Dende could make the third wish, Vegeta arrives, foaming at the mouth and swearing bloody revenge on the whole group for trying to betray him. Dende is halfway through the wish to grant Vegeta immortality when suddenly Porunga vanishes... meaning Guru had died.

Vegeta barely has time to sputter his indignation when Frieza appears just over the bend. His plans of gaining immortality were ruined, and he's angered that a bunch of weaklings had spoiled everything by constantly stealing the Dragon Balls he had collected, as well as killing his best soldiers. Also, he is furious that Vegeta had betrayed him. And so, Frieza takes matters into his own hands.

Frieza's power is phenomenal. He fights Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan easily, but when Piccolo shows up, he is forced to transform into a higher-power body. Frieza constantly toys with the group, using just the right amount of power to be a little stronger than they are. Finally, he decides he's done playing, and transforms into his ultimate form (the small white form with purple plating). He kills Dende (after he figures out Dende is the healer), and then beats the stuffing out of Vegeta. But before Vegeta is quite dead, Goku arrives on the scene (he had been recovering from his fight with Captain Ginyu).

Vegeta is on death's bed, but he's not ready to give up yet. He beseeches Goku to kill Frieza, for Frieza killed the entire Saiyan race. Frieza felt threatened by the Saiyans, for they were a formidable race that was difficult to dominate. Also, he feared the legend of the Super Saiyan... a mythological warrior of millenniums past with a ki great enough to match Frieza himself. So rather than take chances the Super Saiyan was only a myth, he exterminated the entire species, claiming it was a passing comet that destroyed Vejiitasei, and keeping Vegeta alive for fun. Vegeta begged that Frieza be killed "by Saiyan hands," but then Frieza put another blast through his chest, finally ending it.

So begins the fight between Goku and Frieza. Goku is seriously outmatched, and tries to form a Spirit Bomb (an attack that draws the life energy out of everything on the planet). But that Bomb doesn't suffice either, and Frieza laughingly punches a hole through Piccolo's chest, and brutally blows Krillin up.

That last move was a mistake, for watching his best friend die in a painful explosion was enough to push Goku to the next level. His hair burns gold, and he becomes the Super Saiyan. And Frieza has met his match.

Frieza becomes so frustrated he decides to play dirty, and use a core-incinerating sphere to blow up all of Namek. For no matter how powerful a Super Saiyan is, he still needs air to breathe, whereas Frieza can survive in space. The blast doesn't blow up Namek immediately, but there was no stopping the eventual destruction.

While Goku fights Frieza, he asks Gohan to take Piccolo (who's barely still alive) and Bulma, and leave Namek before it blows up. However, the fact that Piccolo survived that energy beam didn't go unnoticed by King Kai (who incidentally had trained Piccolo, Tien, Yamucha, and Chaiotzu after their deaths). He asks Kami to collect the Dragon Balls of Earth, in order to summon Shenlon.

And so the plan is enacted. Shenlon is summoned, and he grants the wish to restore all those killed by Frieza and his men. This includes Guru, and as a result, Porunga is restored... with one wish remaining. Goku demands that wish be used to send everyone on Namek to Earth except himself and Frieza. So everyone that Frieza or his men killed (i.e. Vegeta, Dende, Guru) was resurrected, and sent to Earth. However, Krillin couldn't be restored by Shenlon, for Shenlon can't grant the same wish twice, and he had already restored Krillin in Dragon Ball.

And the battle continues. Now confident that everyone was safe and sound on Earth, Goku could maximize his power. And he does overpower Frieza, who lies on the ground dying. But Frieza asks for mercy, and Goku (naive to a fault), grants Frieza a drop of energy to sustain his life. Frieza uses that energy to shoot at Goku, who dodges it and fires another blast.

The planet Namek blows up.

On Earth, the entire group (including Vegeta and the Nameks) live at Capsule Corporation to wait four months until the Namek Dragon Balls can be used again (the balls can only be used once a year, but the Namek year is 120 Earth days). The first wish is for Krillin and Goku to be sent to Earth's Check-In station. (Since they died on Namek, they would've been restored exactly where they died. The only way to avoid that is to send their souls to Earth's Check-In, where they could subsequently come to Earth when restored.) Porunga announces that Goku isn't dead, and therefore sending him to the Check-In station would kill him. Everyone is surprised, since Goku hadn't returned to Earth. They wish Krillin back to life, and try to wish Goku to Earth, but he refuses to come (he said he'd come soon). The third wish is used to restore Yamucha to life.

Vegeta is shocked to learn that Goku survived the explosion. The only reason he remained on Earth is to find and challenge Goku the moment he was resurrected. But once he learned the truth, Vegeta took one of Dr. Briefs' space ships and headed out into space to find Goku himself.

Another 120 days pass. Wishes one and two restore Chaiotzu and Tien to life. And wish three sends all the Nameks to a new planet suitable to their needs. Piccolo decides to remain on Earth, for Earth had always been his home.

And so the sun sets on the Frieza Saga. Goku is still M.I.A., Piccolo returns to his life of solitude (though never too far from Gohan), Gohan is given a chance to finally get some schoolwork done, and peace reigns. But for how long?

Dragon Ball Z: The Garlic, Junior Saga

This saga is a buffer between the Frieza story arc and the greater Cell story arc, giving Akira Toriyama time to work on the subsequent manga. Therefore, purists don't consider this saga canon, as there is no manga equivalent. These episodes are available for VHS purchase, and they have recently aired on Cartoon Network.

The Garlic, Junior Saga picks up a few months later, and all is peaceful in the world. There has been no word from Goku this whole time, and Vegeta is still out spanning the galaxy searching for him. Gohan spends his time hard at work studying, while the other Z-Senshi basically use the down-time relaxing. They also decide to throw Master Roshi's long-time companion Turtle a birthday party, giving the group a reason to gather together and celebrate. Krillin, accompanied by his new girlfriend Maron, visits the Son home to give Gohan the invitation personally. But Chichi refuses to let him, complaining that the Z-Senshi are only a bad influence on her goodhearted son.

Little do the Senshi know that there's trouble brewing, for Garlic, Junior has somehow found away to break free of the Deadzone, and is out for revenge (FYI-Garlic first appears in the first DBZ movie, making that the only movie to actually occur in the DBZ timeline). This time, he decides to use the Earth's own warriors in his fiendish plot to dethrone Kami, and kill Goku as well. His ploy this time is to use the Black Water Mist, a magical substance that reverts normal people into barbaric monsters, with heightened strength and beastial ferocity.

After debating it for a while, Gohan sneaks out of his house to join the party. Chichi realizes that he's missing, and flies to Kami's island, furiously demanding that Gohan return with her. Maron, ever ditsy, manages to ruffle Chichi's feathers by calling her old, and Krillin, desperate to save his new girlfriend from the legendary wrath of Son Chichi, eagerly pushed Maron into the ocean for snorkling.

That is when the Black Water Mist covered the globe, saturating every living thing in its path with evil. Gohan, Krillin, and Maron weren't exposed, but everyone else was. So when Gohan finally arrived at the island, and Krillin and Maron resurfaced from the ocean, all their friends had beady, glowing red eyes. And all their friends engaged them in fierce battle.

In comes Piccolo, poised as always to spring into Gohan's defense. He commands the three to hurry to Kami's Lookout to as the sage what was going on, and stays behind to fight the entranced Z-Senshi. But then the Spice Boys (yeah, you heard me... SPICE BOYS!!), Garlic Junior's servants, appear. Piccolo is overwhelmed by the enemies, and the Z-Senshi bite him, transfering the spell into the Namek warrior.

Gohan and Krillin drop Maron off at Karin's Tower just beneath the platform, and when they arrive at the Lookout, they're greeted by none other than... Garlic Junior himself! He's taken over, imprisoning Mr. Popo and Kami in glass jars! And not only is the diminutive despot back, but he's got another surprise- his newest warrior: Piccolo.

Piccolo makes short work of both Krillin and Gohan, for the former is simply no match, and the latter is wary of fighting his beloved mentor. It doesn't take long until Piccolo manages to grab hold of Krillin, transfering the magical venom through his fangs. And poor Gohan stands alone against the world.

But, all's not lost yet, for Piccolo has a surprise! He only pretended to fall victim of the Black Water Mist, in order to get close enough to Garlic to grab the jars holding Kami and Mr. Popo (apparently, Piccolo's one incredible actor). So the God of Earth and his attendant are set free, and a plan is formed: Kami and Mr. Popo will find a way to undo the spell of the Black Water Mist, while Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo hold off Garlic and the Spice Boys.

So Kami and Mr. Popo embark on their own quest: to bring the Sacred Water to the Four Winds, where the purifying potion can be most readily spread across the planet. The only problem is, it's forbidden for a living Kami to approach that location, as it's the sacred resting place of the deceased Kamis. Kami and Mr. Popo bravely face the ghosts of the former Kamis to deliver the Sacred Water and save Earth.

Meanwhile, Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo are hard pressed to defeat Garlic and his troops, for with every passing moment, the Makeo star (the source of Garlic's power), grows ever closer to Earth, magnifying Garlic's power immensely.

All seems lost for Earth when the Makeo star comes so near the Earth Garlic's full power is released- transforming him into a colossal titan. He decides to re-open the Deadzone, to plunge Gohan, Piccolo, and Krillin into the murky nothingness he was trapped in. However, that particular trick proved to be Garlic's undoing, for Gohan manages to muster an attack strong enough to knock Garlic off balance, sending him hurtling back from whence he came.

Kami and Mr. Popo manage to spread the Sacred Water in time, freeing all of humanity from the Black Water Mist's curse. The Z-Senshi all return to normal, with no memory of what happened to them. Of course, any semblance of normalcy is always short-lived with this particular group, and trouble comes knocking on their door very soon.

Dragon Ball Z: The Cell Saga

This saga is a combination of the Trunks Saga, the Android Saga, and the various Cell Sagas. This saga has been airing on Cartoon Network from September 2000 through the summer of 2001, so if you haven't seen it, you can catch it on television. Also, Funimation is in the process of releasing these episodes on video as well as DVD.

The Trunks Saga opens a few more months later. After Garlic's appearance, everything fell into a peaceful routine. However, there was no word from Goku. Vegeta returned to Capsule Corporation, for after months of searching the galaxy, he came to the conclusion that the Super Saiyan would return home eventually.

However, not long after Vegeta's return, all the Earth's warriors were stunned to feel a phenomenal ki approaching. And they recognized that ki... although it by far eclipsed the power level they remembered.

Frieza had come for them.

Faced with the bone-chilling reality that death was upon them all, Krillin, Gohan, Tien, Yamucha, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Bulma hurried to the deserts where Frieza's ship would arrive. As they witnessed the landing of Frieza, they were powerless to do anything but wait for some opportunity to strike. But their chances were infinitely slim, as Frieza, who's power alone eclipsed the entire group, was accompanied by King Cold, his father. And King Cold's ki was even more daunting than Frieza's... if one could imagine such a thing.

When all seemed lost for Earth, a teenaged boy stepped onto the scene. His name was Trunks, although he didn't introduce himself, and amidst a flurry of snide remarks, impressive ki attacks, and agile swordsmanship, the stranger revealed his true power. He was a Super Saiyan.

With little difficulty, Trunks obliterated both Frieza and Cold, leaving the Z Senshi to witness a power beyond belief. And then, once all the enemies were dust, he kindly invited them to join him as he awaited Goku, who was slated to arrive within a few hours.

Obviously, all present were completely confounded by the boy. He claimed to be a Super Saiyan, despite the fact Vegeta was more than sure no more Saiyans exist. He had the power to completely embarrass Frieza himself, despite being very young. And how could he know when and where Goku would arrive?

Trunks remained tight-lipped about himself, which only served to frustrate his companions.

Then, true to Trunks' word, Goku arrived in a space ship from the planet Yardrat, where he spent the past years learning new techniques (such as the famous teleportation technique Insta-transmission) and recovering from the battle with Frieza. And before proper welcomes could be given, Trunks pulled Goku aside to deliver news of the greatest urgency.

When they were finally alone, Trunks revealed his mission. He traveled through time to warn Goku that Dr. Gero, formerly the brains behind the Red Ribbon Army, had developed two killer Androids who had ravaged his home world. In three years, the androids would first appear, and quickly murder all the Z Senshi, save Gohan. Gohan would live a few years longer, thankfully long enough to train young Trunks, but he too would fall to the Androids. They were totally unbeatable, and with the Z Senshi all dead, in his time there was only one warrior left. And despite his Super Saiyan strength, Trunks was no match for the machines.

But, all was not lost yet. Trunks revealed that Goku will contract a heart disease, that would kill him before the Androids even appeared. So, he traveled back in time in the hopes that, if he delivered the cure for the disease (which hadn't been discovered yet), Goku would live to fight the Androids. Hopefully, with Goku alive and well, along with the advance warning, the Z Senshi would be able to overwhelm the Androids, and prevent the holocaust that Trunks lived through.

And Trunks dropped one final bomb of completely shocking information... he was an Earth-born demi-Saiyan, the son of Vegeta and Bulma.

After making Goku swear not to divulge the secret of his parentage (as spreading that news could jeopardize the circumstances leading to his birth), Trunks bade farewell, and left in his time machine.

Goku then returned to his friends. With Piccolo's assistance (as the Namek's hearing is acute enough to pick up the entire conversation between Goku and Trunks), the Z Senshi were alerted to the threat of the Androids. The Z Senshi split up for training, with Piccolo joining the Sons and Vegeta opting to train at Capsule Corporation.

The three years passed very quickly. In fact, only two episodes were devoted to that time, and the Z Senshi gathered at the appointed place, a cliff overlooking the city the Androids were supposed to attack first. But a few surprises greeted the Senshi. For starters, Vegeta didn't show up. And, the biggest surprise was Bulma's presence, along with her infant son Trunks.

Armed with a handful of senzu beans (thanks to Yajirobe), the Z Senshi entered the city looking for the Androids. What they found were two powerful opponents: the heavy-set vaguely human looking Android Nineteen, and Android Twenty, who resembled an old man. The Senshi and Androids retreated from the city to a more secluded battle ground, and Goku stepped up to face Gero's legacy.

However, after a promising start, Goku started to weaken. He lost his breath, and began clutching his heart. The Z Senshi were horrified to realize that the messenger from the future had been right... Goku suffered from a heart disease. However, the timing was all wrong. So Goku lay helpless against Nineteen, barely hanging on to consciousness, when out of the blue... Vegeta appeared to save him. And Vegeta had another surprise in store. He was a Super Saiyan.

Yamucha took Goku home to administer the medicine, and Vegeta destroyed Nineteen. Unfortunately, Twenty managed to escape, forcing the Senshi to hunt him down. While they searched for the missing villain, two visitors drew closer. One was Bulma, who eagerly followed in her aircar to see the fight. The other was Future Trunks himself, who had arrived to help in the battle.

Twenty managed to get away, but not scot-free, for Bulma recognized him. Android Twenty was Dr. Gero, and Bulma knew the general location of his laboratory, so the Z Senshi hurried to catch up with him.

They found the lab, but not before Gero managed to release his twin cyborgs: Android Seventeen and Android Eighteen. He didn't activate them at first because of their rebellious tendencies, but he recognized they were far stronger than himself or Nineteen, so in desperation, he brought them to life. And, to the Z Senshi's horror, Seventeen eagerly murdered his creator. And then, the cold-hearted twins revived Android Sixteen, an older, purely robotic model with only one purpose: destroy Son Goku.

The Z Senshi were clearly no match for the Androids. Despite Trunks' beseeching, Vegeta stubbornly faced Eighteen, and got creamed. The only option available was to wait for Goku to recover before an attack could be launched. The Senshi took action: Piccolo and Vegeta leaving on their own, while the rest hurried to Goku's house to hide the ill warrior before the Androids could find him and carry out their primary mission.

In Capsule Corporation, Bulma received a disturbing phone call. Apparently, a Capsule Corp. device was found in severe disrepair, and upon receiving a facsimile of the machine, she was startled to see Trunks' time machine covered in moss. She promptly called the Senshi, and alerted Trunks to the unsettling discovery. Trunks and Gohan accompanied Bulma to recover the ship, and Trunks revealed that he had encapsulated his own vessel and carried it on his person. This worn machine, that appeared to have years of plant growth on it, was a different machine... however, Trunks discovered the word "Hope" etched onto the side, just like his mother had Christened his own. The only conclusion was that the discovered vessel was his time capsule... but where did it come from? Then, to only compound their concern, they discovered the shed exoskeleton of a really big bug, and the inside was still moist... meaning something had just emerged from it.

Meanwhile, the Androids leisurely continued searching for Goku. Fortunately for the Z Senshi, Seventeen was more interested in having fun than carrying out orders, so the Androids took the scenic route in hunting down the Son residence. The Senshi had sufficient time to hide Goku in Roshi's home.

Gazing down upon the Earth was Kami, who carefully watched all that had occurred on his planet. But he was not alone, for when the Z Senshi separated, Piccolo flew to Kami's Lookout, demanding that he and Kami merge once again. The process would put an end to the individuals, creating a single Namek with phenomenal power. Piccolo felt the fusion was the only way the Z Senshi would have the muscle necessary to defeat the Androids. But the fusion would mean the end of Kami, and therefore, the Dragon Balls. Kami was reluctant to comply, and revealed to Piccolo that he had been observing an evil that was even more dangerous. A beast whose power dwarfed the Androids. The beast that hatched from the exoskeleton Trunks and Gohan found. The beast we know as Cell.

So, in order to create a warrior strong enough to face this new threat, Kami relented and allowed himself to fuse with Piccolo; with the latter retaining dominance, since Piccolo was the younger and stronger of the pair. And so the Super-Namek was born.

The new-and-improved Piccolo (who retained that name simply because it's easier for his allies) hurried to Cell's location, and found the insectoid wreaking havoc in a city, his needle-tipped tail draining the life out of innocent humans to strengthen his own power. Cell and Piccolo faced off, and Cell managed to stun Piccolo by gathering his ki into a familiar technique... the Kamehameha.

Across the planet, the scattered Z-Senshi felt a burst of Goku's ki, despite the fact they knew Goku was still recovering from the virus at Kame House. Stunned, the heroes tracked the source of that power.

During their fight, Cell stabbed Piccolo's arm with his life-draining tail, sucking the Namek's arm completely dry. Cradling his withered arm and staring death in the face, Piccolo listened as Cell revealed his origin. Cell was the final project of Dr. Gero, his ultimate creation. By using the DNA of Earth's greatest fighters, Gero designed an android capable of performing all the Z-Senshi's trademark attacks. Long after Gero's death, Cell gestated in an underground basement of the laboratory, reaching full maturity thanks to the automated systems. But as he stood, Cell was incomplete; for it was preprogrammed into his consciousness to seek out Androids Seventeen and Eighteen, and achieve his full might by absorbing them into his person. That was why he traveled back in time, using Trunks' time machine to do so; for in his world, the Androids were already destroyed.

Satisfied with the information gathered, Piccolo tore off his handicapped arm and generated a new one. His full intention was to destroy Cell before he achieved his full might. However, the Z-Senshi arrived, and Cell slipped away by using the Solar Flare technique to distract his enemies.

Piccolo, infuriated that he let Cell escape, quickly took to the air to find him before more damage could be done. Trunks decided that the first step was to destroy the Cell that was still developing in Gero's lab, so he and Krillin hurried to Gero's laboratory. While there, they destroyed the entire lab, but were fortunate to stumble upon Gero's blueprints for Androids Seventeen and Eighteen. Galvanized by this discovery (and praying that his mother and grandfather could decipher the notes to determine some weakness), Trunks took the plans back to Capsule Corporation. Afterwards, he decided to hunt down his father, who had completely isolated himself from the Z Senshi after his embarrassing defeat by Eighteen.

The Z Senshi gathered once again, desperate to find Cell, who incredibly managed to tear through the entire populous of several towns, murdering by the thousands, while still evading capture. In the airship in which the Senshi traveled, Goku suddenly appeared, using the Insta-transmission technique he learned on Yardrat to home in on his companions.

Goku has made a full recovery, and has already formulated a plan give the heroes a much-needed edge. He understood why Vegeta had gone into isolation, for he too sensed a primal energy within. He then revealed that there was something beyond Super Saiyan, a new level of power to reach. With a great deal of training and meditation, along with a heavy dose of determination, Goku felt he and his fellow Saiyans could reach that new peak in power. Unfortunately, time was of the essence, for Cell's strength grew to new heights with every person he absorbed, and eventually, the abomination would feel strong enough to hunt the Androids themselves. If he were successful in absorbing them, Earth was doomed.

So Goku revealed his plan: he, Gohan, Trunks, and Vegeta would train in pairs in the Room of Spirit and Time. In that pocket dimension, time flowed so quickly that one day in the real world equated an entire year within. So within a span of forty-eight hours (since only two could enter the Room at once), all four Saiyans would have an entire year's worth of training. Hopefully the extra training time, in a high-gravity environment, would be enough to allow the Saiyans to reach this new level of power.

Goku took Gohan and teleported to Trunks' location. They found Trunks seated at the foot of a high cliff, where Vegeta stood as if in a trance. Trunks complained that Vegeta wouldn't even let the young man near him, much less train with him. Goku flew up to Vegeta, and gave the arrogant prince an offer even he couldn't refuse: the chance to pack a year's worth of training in one day. The only condition was that Vegeta would have to train with Trunks. While suspicious of Goku's condition, Vegeta complied, so long as he would enter the Room first.

The four Saiyans went to Kami's Lookout, where Piccolo and Mr. Popo usher Vegeta and Trunks into the Room. Vegeta, of course, was ungrateful and aloof, but Trunks eagerly awaited for the opportunity to spend some time with the father he never knew. Goku and Gohan elected to stay at the Lookout and wait the twenty-four hours, rather than spend them on Earth. That way, they'd maximize their chances of surviving until they got their time in the Room, and when they would emerge, they'd be vastly more dangerous to Gero's creations.

As the most powerful of the Earth warriors, Piccolo realized it was his responsibility to do his best to prevent Cell from absorbing Seventeen and Eighteen in the interim. So he descended to Earth, and rejoined the remaining Senshi at Kame House, reasoning that the Androids would eventually decide to search there for Goku.

And that is exactly what they did.

Sixteen, Seventeen, and Eighteen touched down upon Roshi's island, after having found Goku's residence and discovered it empty. Piccolo brashly informed the trio that Goku couldn't come out to play, but he was more than eager to oblige. The androids took the challenge, and since Eighteen had the pleasure of tormenting Vegeta, this face-off belonged to her twin. The group traveled to an island cluster, and Sixteen and Eighteen sat down to watch as Piccolo and Seventeen let loose.

Seventeen was surprised to discover that Piccolo was far more powerful than he had been when they first met. Still, the confident cyborg wasn't disturbed, and eagerly met the challenge. But before a victor could be decided, Cell appeared.

Piccolo recognized the true threat, and tried to warn Seventeen of Cell's intentions. But Seventeen perceived no real threat, and as a consequence, Cell managed to surprise the unwary cyborg and absorb him. Cell's tail opened to swallow the cyborg whole, and to the horror of all watching, Cell transformed.

The new Cell, Stage Two, was vastly more powerful than his previous form. He made mincemeat of Piccolo, dealing him a deathblow and tossing him to the shore. Then, he set his sights on his final objective: the thunderstruck Eighteen.

That's when Android Sixteen stepped into the fray. For, despite his basic programming to destroy Goku, Sixteen had developed a sense of friendship with his companions. And even more astonishing, he demonstrated a devotion to the planet Earth. Determined to prevent Cell from doing any more harm, Sixteen leapt into his first battle, and to everyone's astonishment, he proved he was even stronger than Seventeen or Eighteen.

Unfortunately, despite his awesome strength, Sixteen wasn't strong enough to beat Cell alone. Cell delivered a crippling blow, crushing part of Sixteen's head, and rendering the android barely functional. Then, he once again turned his attention to Eighteen.

However, out of nowhere, a mighty Tri-beam descended from the heavens, right into Cell. Tien had followed Piccolo into the battle. Despite the impossible odds he faced, he was determined to do anything in his power to stall Cell from absorbing Eighteen, and completing his evolution. Eighteen took advantage of Cell's distraction, supported Sixteen on her shoulder, and escaped.

Unfortunately, Tien couldn't take the strain of the multiple Tri-beams, and succumbed to the weakness of his body. Cell, infuriated that he missed the opportunity to gain perfection, moved to destroy the brave Z-Senshi.

That's when, out of the blue, Goku teleported to the battle. He picked up Tien, then Piccolo (who had just barely survived), promised Cell he'd see him in one day, and teleported away.

Cell immediately began looking for Eighteen. Recognizing she couldn't have gotten far while carrying Sixteen with her, he began a systematic search of the island cluster, obliterating each island one at a time to fish her out.

Goku returned to Kami's Lookout, and after two Senzu beans, Piccolo and Tien were back at one-hundred percent. And finally, the door of the Room slid open, revealing two very battered, and incredibly more powerful, Saiyan Warriors.

Vegeta and Trunks found Cell floating over the last island (which also happened to be where Eighteen and Sixteen were hiding). Vegeta announced that he would be the one to destroy Cell. Gero's masterpiece began laughing disdainfully, but when Vegeta began powering up, his laughter died in his throat.

Vegeta demonstrated to the world the might of the Ascended Saiyan. And he pulverized the sputtering, half-crazed Second-Level Cell while Trunks patiently watched.

During the battle, Krillin landed on the island, watching Eighteen from afar. In his hand was a remote control Bulma had constructed based on the plans Trunks had found in Gero's lab. His goal was to get close enough to Eighteen for the device to trigger her self-destruct sequence, and destroy her. A simple mission; or so it seemed. Krillin found himself captivated by the young beauty. Despite his fear of her incredible strength, compounded by the stories of destruction Trunks had related, Krillin couldn't bring himself to kill her. He began to wonder whether she was truly evil, for she hadn't really done anything unforgivable in this dimension. So, he made an irrevocable decision. He approached Eighteen and Sixteen, who were watching the fight between Vegeta and Cell in horrified fascination. He destroyed the remote before her very eyes, and offered to help her in any way he can. Needless to say, Eighteen was struck by his inexplicable mercy.

Then, a desperate Cell made a final appeal to Vegeta's pride. He offered the Saiyan a tempting proposition- let him absorb Eighteen, and then revel in the challenge of fighting Cell in his final, ultimate form.

To the horror of everyone watching, both on Kami's Lookout and nearby, Vegeta agreed, and releases Cell.

Then, Trunks streaked into action, his hair burning gold as he moved against Cell. Vegeta stood in his way, but Trunks couldn't give Cell the chance to destroy more lives. Trunks and Vegeta engaged in a fight of their own, giving Cell the needed time to spot Eighteen and attack.

There was little Krillin or Sixteen could do to help her. Despite putting up a valiant fight herself, Eighteen was caught by Cell's agile tail. And in a dazzling display of light and energy, Perfect Cell was born.

Perfect Cell effortlessly throttle Sixteen and Krillin, and then set his sights on Vegeta. The Prince put up an excellent fight, even mustering a Final Flash with the power to demolish the entire solar system, but Cell regenerated the damage done (thanks to Piccolo's DNA).

Trunks revived Krillin with a Senzu bean, but refrained from helping his father. Krillin was astonished by Trunks' passivity, especially after Trunks revealed that he was in fact stronger than Vegeta. Trunks explained that he had come to an understanding of Vegeta during their year together in the Room. Vegeta was ruled by his pride. And Trunks would see his father die first than hurt his pride by helping him.

Once Vegeta was knocked unconscious, however, Trunks was liberated to show the world his true strength. Krillin took the downed Prince to a safer location, and Trunks released his fury.

The two time-travelers measured each other up, and Cell revealed coldly that he had already killed Trunks... in the timeline he came from, he murdered the young man in order to steal his time machine. Trunks powered up to his maximum strength, his muscles bulging and eyes flaming, and the battle was on.

It didn't take long for Trunks to recognize an inherent flaw in the Ascended Saiyan level he had attained… one up from his father's. While he was much stronger than before, his speed was sorely impeded, and as a consequence, he couldn't land any of his earth-rattling blows. Frustrated and ashamed, Trunks powered down, and calmly invited Cell to kill him, as he wasn't yet strong enough to stand a chance.

Interested by Trunks' surrender, Cell wondered if Trunks would be more of a threat if given more training time. Shocked by Cell's question, Trunks replied that he and the other Senshi would achieve much higher levels of strength, for they still hadn't reached that pinnacle they were striving for. Then, exuding confidence, Cell decided that he wouldn't kill Trunks, or any of the Senshi, just yet. Instead, he'd meet them in ten day's time, for the Cell Games.

The Senshi regrouped at Kami's Lookout, awaiting Goku and Gohan. Soon, the two warriors emerged, both Super Saiyans. Vegeta was shocked (and secretly impressed) that the two had made remaining Super Saiyans a part of their training. And, while both were astonishingly powerful, Vegeta found himself more interested in Gohan's newfound abilities.

Trunks updated everyone on the ten-day break they had until the Cell Games would begin. They began to ration out time in the Room of Spirit and Time, before Goku made another startling announcement: he and Gohan would train no more. He was confident that they had trained enough, and the cheerful warrior decided to spend the next few days relaxing before the tournament.

Cell decided to go public, and after commandeering a news station, announced to the world that the Cell Games, fashioned after the Budokai tournaments that used to be a premier sporting event, would decide the fate of the world. Humanity at large grew panicked, but rested their hopes in Earth's reigning martial arts champion, the boastful warrior Mr. Satan.

Trunks, Vegeta, and Piccolo took turns in the Room, while Bulma and her father worked feverishly to make repairs to Android Sixteen. Goku and his family relaxed, filling their time with picnics, birthday parties, and simply living. During one of their excursions, the Sons witnessed a news report in which an army had assembled to attack Cell. Goku watched in horror as Cell murdered thousands of men without the slightest effort. Recognizing just how many Cell had killed, and promised to kill, he determined to make sure the Dragon Balls were restored before the Cell Games.

Using his Insta-transmission, Goku traveled to New Namek, where he asked if any would serve as Earth's Kami. Dende, who had missed Gohan ever since he and his people left for New Namek, eagerly volunteered. Goku brought the boy to Earth, and Dende recreated the Dragon Balls after Kami's design. In a matter of hours, seven new Balls sprang to life, and vanished to the four-corners of the Earth. Dende revealed that these new Dragon Balls strengthened Shenlon's abilities, allowing the dragon to grant two wishes rather than three. Goku retrieved the Dragon Radar from Bulma, and embarked on a quest to collect the seven Dragon Balls ahead of time, so that once Cell was destroyed, everyone he killed could be wished back to life.

Finally, the Cell Games began. While Piccolo, Vegeta, and Trunks were all much stronger thanks to their respective training bouts in the Room, and Sixteen was granted various upgrades by the Briefs geniuses, none were able to reach a level of strength that could make them a challenge. All hope rested on Goku.

But before Goku could enter the ring, Mr. Satan, accompanied by his best students, demanded their shot at the green creature. According to the rules of a Budokai, in order to win a fight one must knock his opponent unconscious or out of the ring. Killing is forbidden, so Cell merely knocked all three humans out of the ring without effort. Then, he and Goku met at the center of the ring.

After a long, arduous battle, Goku decided that he couldn't beat Cell. To everyone's astonishment, he surrendered, and announced that there was someone more powerful than him, who would finish Cell off. Curious, Cell waited for this new opponent to show himself. And Goku rested the fate of the planet in Gohan's hands.

Shocked and horrified by Goku's announcement, the Z Senshi (especially Piccolo) tried to talk him out of it. But Goku revealed that Gohan had a power sleeping within him that hadn't been tapped yet. And even without that added strength, Gohan was already stronger than his father. So Goku, ever an honorable warrior, gave Cell a Senzu bean so he could fight a new opponent fully refreshed. And Gohan stepped forward.

Gohan fought exceedingly well, but still begged Cell not to push him too hard. For Gohan was fearful of what would happen if his full strength was unleashed.

But rather than grow fearful at Gohan's mysterious potential, Cell was intrigued by the challenge, and tried to goad Gohan into a rage of power. He generated Cell Babies, smaller versions of himself with equal strength, that mercilessly attacked the Z Senshi.

Android Sixteen was killed by Cell, and that final event, which Gohan watched just inches from him, brought on the needed fury.

Gohan erupted, electrical sparks highlighting his aura as he crashed through the barrier leading to Super Saiyan II. With speed that not even Cell could visually track, Gohan destroyed all the Cell Babies, and pounded Cell himself into a daze.

Somehow, the vicious jabs to Cell's stomach caused a chain reaction that shook apart his perfect transformation. Cell vomited out Eighteen, whole and in one piece, and reverted back to Level 2.

Infuriated at his loss of ultimate power, Cell activated his own self-destruct. If Gohan tried to attack, he would only set off the explosion that would obliterate the entire globe. There was nothing anyone could do… save Goku. The hero stepped forward toward the blustering Cell. After bidding his dear son farewell, and emphasizing his pride in Gohan's strength and heart, Goku teleported himself, and Cell, to King Kai's planetoid.

Cell promptly exploded, destroying the planetoid, and killing Goku and everyone else there.

Crushed that his father had died, thanks to his own delay in destroying Cell once and for all, Gohan collapsed into sobbing rage. The Z Senshi gathered in silent respect for the great hero who once again sacrificed himself to save his loved ones.

And then, out of nowhere, a bolt of hot energy shot through the air, slicing Trunks clean through the chest.

The thunderstruck Senshi watched dumbly as Trunks fell to the ground, dead.

Perfect Cell stepped forward, fully recovered despite Goku's sacrifice. For as long as one cell existed, Cell could regenerate. Also, since his own DNA coding had in its memory his perfect form, he was able to regenerate into his ultimate form. And finally, because Goku had used Insta-transmission on him, Cell was able to store the technique, teleporting himself back to Earth.

Blinded by a white-hot rage, Vegeta sought to avenge his fallen son. But he couldn't destroy Cell, and Gohan took what would have been a fatal blow for the prince.

Now, the Z Senshi faced a fully revitalized Cell, and Gohan, their only hope, was both exhausted and wounded.

Still the heroes pressed on. Gohan valiantly mustered a brutal Kamehameha, but Cell managed to react with a matching blast. The two were at a standstill.

Piccolo stepped forward, deciding that he'd fight alongside Gohan, despite the fact his strength was laughable in comparison. Soon, Krillin, Yamucha, and Tien joined him, and the four warriors teamed up against Cell from behind, trying desperately to distract enough of his energies to allow Gohan's Kamehameha through.

Their efforts simply weren't strong enough, until Vegeta, recovered from the double shock of suddenly losing his nemesis and son within a span of minutes, fired the Big Bang that hurt Cell just enough for Gohan's Kamehameha to prevail.

Cell disintegrated in the blinding heat of the energy wave. Not a single cell of his remained to regenerate anew.

Thoroughly exhausted, but grinning nonetheless, Gohan collapsed to the ground.

Triumphant, the heroes gathered themselves, and leaving a reluctant Vegeta behind, they flew straight to Kami's Lookout, where Dende awaited them.

The first wish was used to revive everyone killed by Cell. That wish brought Trunks back to life. However, it didn't bring back Goku. Dende revealed that, while he was able to give Shenlon the ability to grant more wishes, he still couldn't grant the same wish twice. And Shenlon had already wished Goku back to life, after he was killed in the fight against Radditz. Yamucha suggested they wish themselves to Namek, and ask Porunga to revive Goku. But Goku called to them from the afterlife, explaining that he didn't want to be wished back. For Goku realized that the only reason why Cell was even created was because of him. Gero's desire to avenge the Red Ribbon Army led to the creation of all the Androids, and Goku was the one who defeated them. Vengeance against Goku was also the reason why Frieza had returned to Earth. The hero decided Earth would be safer without him, for his enemies can't avenge themselves against a dead man.

So, Krillin decided to ask Shenlon to turn Eighteen back into a human being. Eighteen, who had regained consciousness, was shocked to hear the wish. Shenlon explained that was beyond his power, so instead, Krillin asked that the self-destruct device within her be removed. Dumfounded, and disturbed, by the monk's concern, Eighteen rudely informed him that she owed him nothing, and fled.

All the evils of Cell had been undone, and the Z Senshi were able to rest, contented by the thought that once again, Earth was saved. And while their friend Goku was no longer with them, they were comforted that he had chosen that destiny. All that was left was for Trunks to return to the future, and free his own world.

After a small celebration, Trunks boarded his time machine. After receiving a gruff (but nonetheless heartfelt) farewell from his father, Trunks traveled to his home dimension.

He arrived to find his world just as he left it. He enthusiastically detailed his adventures to his mother, proudly informing her that Vegeta had gone into a fitful rage at his death. Bulma was, understandably, shocked that Vegeta showed any concern at all for his son. Then, after a cup of tea at their reunion, Trunks left to finally put an end to the Androids' reign of terror.

The bloodthirsty Seventeen and Eighteen were confident in their ability to kill the irritating Saiyan once and for all, but Trunks made it crystal clear that he had become painfully more powerful than both of them. Then, without exerting any visible effort, Trunks laid them both to waste. But he wasn't finished yet.

Months later, Cell appeared, searching for the Androids to achieve his ultimate form. But Trunks was prepared for him, and calmly informed him at Seventeen and Eighteen were nothing but dust. Shocked by Trunks' strength, as well as his foreknowledge of his own abilities, Cell attacked. Trunks obliterated him easily.

Finally, the nightmare was over. Both worlds were at peace. The long, harsh nightmare of his life was over, and the powerful, noble champion of the future had avenged his sensei, his father, and all the warriors he had befriended in the past.

But, as I’m sure you suspected, the adventures of the Z Senshi are far from over…
